This is an introductory course looking at the British amphibians and will include identification, how to carry out surveys and the laws regulating their protection. Field sessions will involve a variety of surveying techniques at several sites and close examination of a number British amphibian species. The evening session (19.00 - 20.30) is optional (highly recommended); those wishing to attend please bring your own torch. An Advanced British Amphibian course is available on the 11th March 2011.
This British Amphibian course runs from 13.00 to 20.30 and includes dinner at a local public house and a free FSC guide Reptiles and Amphibians of Britain and Ireland.
Laurence Jarvis is a graduate in Zoology and part of the Education Team at Epping Forest Field Centre. He has a strong interest and knowledge of many aspects of amphibian ecology, carries out surveying of amphibians and is currently studying part-time for a PhD on the ecology of the great crested newt.
