Amphibian Identification and Surveying Techniques
Tutor: John Wilkinson Friday 20th April, 3pm – 9pm Dingestow Court, near Monmouth Contact: GWT, 01600 740600 Cost: £12 members, £16 non members BOOKING ESSENTIAL Know nothing about newts? Totally confused about toads? Feeling ignorant of frogs? Come and learn how to identify Gwent’s amphibians with a national expert, Dr John Wilkinson from the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust. This isn’t a course for professionals, it’s intended for people who would like to know how to look for and identify our common species, perhaps with a view to taking part in the National Amphibian and Reptile Recording Scheme (NARRS), which is run by John and to which many GWT members contribute.
A classroom session will be spent learning the key points of identification. Then, after a break with an optional pub dinner, follows a practical session torching, netting and potentially bottle-trapping for newts. Due to the unpredictable nature of these species, the location for the practical element of this course may be changed to maximise the chances of finding animals.
All booked attendees will be sent full details of any changes to the schedule.
