Great Crested Newts - Ecology and Survey
Tuesday 8 May 2012
Location: Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire
Tutor: Jonathan Bradley CEnv MIEEM
Level: Beginner - Intermediate
An introduction to; ID and the ecology of GCN, protective legislation, survey techniques, survey standards, what the results of these surveys tell us and what one should do with the information.
The course is very much practical and intends to provide an insight into the sorts of hiccups that might be encountered on a site currently undergoing development.
It is considered essential that attendees remain overnight to accompany the tutor on a evening of torch surveys and to collect in bottle traps the next morning. If unable to stay overnight, inform the tutor who will try to catch some newts the night before so that everyone gets to see them close up.
Mitigation measures will be touched upon but will only be in the detail that time allows.
